Beatrix Li-Chin Loos, born in Germany, of Taiwanese and German origin, lives and works in Strasbourg. An aesthete and a perfectionist, she has a marked taste for fine finish and well-done work. She is very keen on what is contrasted, raw and refined, luxury in plainness.
From her early youth, she has felt a need to create. Being self-taught she made small scenery, clothing, objects and furniture. When a teenager, she discovered ecology. Being torn between creative craft and ecological engagement, she took a decision, after a first cursus in architecture, and attended studies in social sciences and environmental policy. In 1994, she was a militant on the Rainbow Warrior, the symbolic ship of Greenpeace. The aim of the campaign was to make the public sensitive to « clean production », now « eco-production », a strong experience that would leave definite marks… At 24 Beatrix Li-Chin Loos came to live in France and settled in Paris. She discovered fashion, working for the creator Richard Voinnet. But destiny led her to change course again, and for several years she worked for ecological organizations. However, her artistic calling remained the stronger. By working wood, her favourite material, and promoting eco-design, she finally will have found her way, the only possible one for her: combine creative and artistic work with engagement in ecology. She trained in cabinetmaking at the famous “Ecole Boulle” in Paris, and created made-to-measure pieces. When she settled in the South of France, the idea to re-use scraps became perfectly evident, and she started making her first pieces. When arrived in Strasbourg she then developed her first collection. « Chut ! de bois » was presented at the « Parcours du Design 2009 » in Strasbourg. The cycle is, now, completed, and a beautiful adventure starts... naturally.
